When the Sweeney family learned they were expecting twins, their hearts were filled with joy, excitement, and dreams for the future. Their boys, Isaac and Owen, were deeply loved from the very beginning, and their daughter Audrey was part of the family story they were building together.

But at just 25 weeks pregnant, their pregnancy journey changed in an instant. After an emergency C-section, Isaac and Owen were born weighing less than two pounds each. What should have been the start of a new chapter at home became the beginning of a long and emotional hospital journey.

For the Sweeneys, those early days were filled with uncertainty, fear, and hope. Each moment with their boys was precious. Each milestone mattered. And while they held tightly to hope for both of their sons, their family also experienced unimaginable heartbreak when Isaac passed away.

Through it all, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Central Illinois helped provide comfort and support during one of the most difficult seasons of their lives. Being close to the hospital meant the Sweeneys could stay near Owen while he continued to receive care, while also carrying Isaac’s memory with them every step of the way.

“Ronald McDonald House gave us the ability to be close to our boys when every moment mattered,” the Sweeney family shared. “During the hardest days of our lives, we were surrounded by comfort, compassion, and people who cared.”

Their story is one of love, loss, strength, and the deep bond of family. It is a story of parents fighting to stay strong for their children, of honoring Isaac’s life, of supporting Owen’s healing, and of holding their family close, including Audrey, through every difficult moment.

It is also a reminder of why our mission matters. When a child needs healthcare, families should not have to face added barriers to be by their side.

Because of generous donors, volunteers, and supporters, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Central Illinois can continue providing essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children need healthcare.

For families like the Sweeneys, that support means more than a place to stay. It means being close during critical moments. It means having a community during heartbreak. And it means knowing they are not alone.
