Jack “Tinker” dedicated years to collecting pop tabs to support Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Central Illinois, inspiring friends and family to join him in his mission. After his passing, loved ones continued his tradition, creating gifts in his memory that will help families stay close when their children need care most.
Family Stories
When Evan and Brooke Davidson from Carthage, Illinois, welcomed their second son, Huxton, into the world two months early, their lives changed overnight. With Huxton needing care in the NICU in Springfield, they found themselves hours from home, separated from their older son Judson, and facing the unknown.
For Dave, volunteering with Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Central Illinois isn’t just about giving back — it’s about honoring a chapter of his own family’s journey and bringing comfort to others walking similar paths.
During National Volunteer Week, we’re proud to highlight some of the incredible individuals who give their time, energy, and heart to help us keep families close. Today, we’re spotlighting Doug Long, a dedicated volunteer at our Peoria House whose story reminds us of the power of simply showing up with compassion.
